1. Written on a printed letter from Harriet Martineau dated Tynemouth, 22 October 1843. This letter was headed “To the Contributors to a Testimonial to H. Martineau”; it was later published in The Westminster Review, December 1843 (p. 522), when the total amount raised was stated to be £1,358 8s. 10d.
