Correspondence

1821.  EBB to Anna Brownell Jameson

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 10, 37.

[London]

Thursday. [23 January 1845] [1]

On saturday, my dear Mrs Jameson, I am engaged for all day——will monday or any succeeding day do nearly as well. Very sorry I am—& very grateful for your kindest consideration in letting me see the book which I never had seen, & which is so welcome for every reason– The pleasure you gave me yesterday, did not end, believe me, with our parting. I am one of the ‘ruminating animals’—a sort of heifer–

Your affectionate

EBB–

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Wellesley College.

1. Conjectural date provided by Mrs. Jameson’s visit, as well as EBB’s reference to “ruminating animals,” which seems to place this letter in this period when they were discussing Vestiges of Creation.
