Correspondence

2871.  RB to Isa Blagden

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 16, 172–173.

[Florence]

Friday Mg [?2] [August 1850] [1]

My dear Miss Blagden,

Many thanks for your kindness—Ba is better, decidedly, tho’ very weak, of course, & unable to do more than send her love, which she does–

But,—oh my ownstupidity! One main incitement to going to Poggio [2] the other night, was to ask where may be “the letter,” said to be included in your last note, and for which the postage was enclosed with such exemplary precision? I have been expecting it would arrive every morning. —I trust it was not lost by the way.

Ever yours faithfully,

RBg

Publication: B-IB, p. 8.

Manuscript: Armstrong Browning Library.

1. Conjectured date suggested by RB’s mention of EBB’s being “very weak,” which presumably refers to her fourth miscarriage; see letter 2869.

2. “Hill.” In this context RB is referring to Isa Blagden’s residence, Villa Moutier, near the Poggio Imperiale.
