Correspondence

3113.  EBB to Anna Brownell Jameson

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 18, 218.

58 Welbeck street

Wednesday morning– [Postmark: 15 September 1852]

Dearest Monna Nina, I am very vexed indeed to have to give up saturday after all,—but since I wrote last, an hour ago, Robert has been brooding over the atrocious weather and my detestable cough which respond one to another, & is afraid for me of the evening exposure in omnibuses & the like. I am sorry, I cant tell you how sorry– But there may be reason in what Robert says, and you would be the last, I know (or at least, the last but one or two) to wish me to run any risk. I am quite uncomfortable in this horrible air– Give me the wings of a dove [1] & I would fly to Rome!

Your ever affectionate Ba—

Answer my note about Charles the first & Miss Lane. [2]

Address: Mrs Jameson / Ealing.

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Wellesley College.

1. Cf. Psalm 55:6.

2. We have been unable to trace a connection between Clara Lane and King Charles I. Perhaps it involved an illustration of some kind. As indicated in letter 3118, Miss Lane was evidently requesting information about him.
