Correspondence

3114.  EBB to Caroline Paine

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 18, 219.

[London]

[ca. 15 September 1852] [1]

So sorry I am, so very sorry that you should have been unwell, my dear friend. That’s the worst of it. Now remember it’s the worst, & dont exert yourself & provoke more evil by thinking of saturday or monday, should you not be quite well– We shall be here

<…> [2]

you, & will bring it when you come, though I am nearly overwhelmed by the multitude of books just now– I write in great haste while Wiedeman tugs at me. Wilson returns towards the end of next week–

With regards, the kindest from both of us, to Mr Paine, & Miss <***>

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Armstrong Browning Library.

1. Approximately dated by EBB’s reference to Wilson’s return “towards the end of next week.” She used similar expressions in letters 3110 and 3111.

2. This letter is written on both sides of a single sheet, the bottom half of which has been excised, resulting in loss of text here and below.
