Correspondence

3332.  EBB to Kemble Sartoris

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 20, 87.

Via Bocca di Leone 43–

Monday. [February 1854] [1]

My dear Mrs Sartoris

I do not dare go out this weather (even in the house it finds me out) and my husband has an engagement for this evening. Last night a bare accident prevented him from keeping a favorite promise to himself & going to you.

So nothing remains to us of good luck except the thought that you cared to have us .. and that is very pleasant.

Most truly yours

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Armstrong Browning Library.

1. Dating suggested by EBB’s reference to cold weather. In letter 3349 she complains of its lasting three weeks.
