[Florence—Wednesday, 4 April 1860]
Wednesday 4th Completed the arrangements for 2 dresses for Thursday night visited again those two glorious galleries, not forgetting to buy a few flowers of the poor man in the Uffizi nor to visit the Gran Duca in the Pitti. In the evening we drove 5 in one small vettura to visit Miss Blagden at Bello Sguardo. Had a very long talk there with Mr Trollope about Buckle. He talked most thoughtfully about it but hopelessly it seemed as if we must yet find a new and surer ground-work for our faith. It was nearly one before we returned.
