1. Domett was emigrating to New Zealand, where he had bought land and where his friend and kinsman, William Curling Young, was already established. E.A. Horsman, in his introduction to The Diary of Alfred Domett (Oxford, 1953), states that Domett set sail on 30 April aboard the S.S. Sir Charles Forbes.
