I entrust you with what no human eye but my own has seen—tell me frankly, your opinion of it, and if it be readable you shall see the rest– [2] I want the Horse’s head & the Fiend’s head—(the White Horse)—pray consider the manuscript sacredly confidential– I find the journal cant be sent–

1. Dated by EBB’s reply of 8 January 1843 (letter 1119).

2. EBB’s reply makes clear that Haydon had sent her the first part of his autobiography, which he had begun writing in July 1839 (Pope, IV, 570). It was later edited by Tom Taylor and published in 1853.
