1. Approximate dating based on RB’s reference to a “second volume” (see note 2 below) and to Milsand’s presence at 19 Warwick Crescent. Milsand stayed with RB in London from mid-March to 23 April 1868, and RB’s remark, “if you can come in a few days,” indicates that this letter was written toward the end of Milsand’s visit.

2. Of RB’s Poetical Works (6 vols., 1868), which was published by Smith, Elder & Co. on 1 April 1868 (see The Athenæum, 28 March 1868, no. 2109, p. 471.
