1171.  Benjamin Robert Haydon to EBB

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 6, 354.

[London]

[Postmark: 6 March 1843]

You shall have a little note now– I fear you will think you have got into a nice concern by honoring me with your beautiful Sonnet! [1] —now do not you think so?

Will you tell me by return—the age of Gower & Chaucer at the time of the entry– Was Chaucer 19—& was Gower 45–? [2]

I went to St Mary Overies yesterday & was quite delighted [3] —you have inoculated me to see something in what is not Greek–

Illus.

Address: Miss B. Barrett / 50 Wimpole St.

Publication: EBB-BRH, pp. 42–43.

Manuscript: University of Vermont.
