I am very sorry indeed that it will be quite impossible for me to have the pleasure you propose for next Thursday. I am engaged to dine in Town, past all putting off. My mother is vexed at this circumstance having “slipt her memory” in the morning yesterday when Mrs Sherman so kindly called. Best regards to her and to you from
