1. Sir Stephenson Villiers Surtees (1803–67), barrister, of Silkmore House, Staffordshire, was Chief Justice of Mauritius in 1835. On 22 June 1865 he received a Doctor in Civil Law from the University of Oxford. He was knighted in 1859.
2. Perhaps at the Athenæum Club, where both Surtees and RB were members.
