Miss Dora Greenwell must allow me to thank her gratefully for a too generous appreciation of my poetry expressed with a most touching grace in her sonnet. The distance of Florence from England will account for the apparent ingratitude of my silence hitherto. Indeed I am not ungrateful, however unworthy otherwise.

I have not seen yet the volume of poems which accompanied the sonnet. That is a pleasure waiting for me in England with some others, in the hope of which we are making our preparations for a visit home towards the close of this summer. Meantime, will Miss Greenwell accept the cordial goodwishes, as well as thanks of her much obliged
