My dear cousin,

Forgive me my impertinence yesterday! I have just heard from Miss Mitford—the mere shadow of a note—and she says that her friend Miss James has met Mr Eagles & that “he evidently avoids the acquaintance–” This seems strange to me—but of course it renders any further negociation undesirable.

If you remember in what year the Sketcher’s papers on the North of Devonshire, occur in Blackwood, will you let me know? [2] Take no trouble about it– I shall understand by your silence that you do not remember–
