Correspondence

5659.5. RB to Emelyn Story

Addendum to The Brownings’ Correspondence, vol. 32.

[London]

Saturday. [11 November 1865] [1]

Dear Mrs Story.

How wearied I am of saying “No– No!”– To-morrow I dine at Forsters, and he never lets anybody off. Lady W asked me to meet you last Tuesday, but I could not go then either. After all, there’s more talk about poor me than I’m worth, as you know well enough.

Let us meet in peace and quietness in Rome someday: if I did not trust it would be so,—all engagements should look after themselves and to you I would go straight—but I seem to have plenty of time before me for everything in this world.

I shall not say “good bye”—moreover you are not gone yet: but I wish you all well most truly at all times—& am

ever affectionately yours

RB–

Give my love to Wild, remember.

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Armstrong Browning Library.

1. Date based on reference to letter 5063, 6 November 1865, where Lady William Russell asks RB to meet the Storys the previous Tuesday.
