Now, my dear Ward, you are outrageously good—first comes one book, then a note, then another book,—are you bent on softening your heart in prosperity as the other sort of folks harden theirs?

All thanks for all, and I will certainly call the next time I get near you—wanting to talk of many matters– Heartily, farewell meanwhile. How is Winter? I am glad to see his name in the Magazines. [2]

1. The tone of this letter seems to imply that it was written subsequent to RB’s last contribution to Hood’s Magazine in the April 1845 issue.

2. Andrew Winter’s works appeared in The New Monthly Magazine in the March and July 1845 issues. Winter’s contribution to Hood’s Magazine (September 1844) did not please Hood, and further works did not appear in this publication.
