1712.  Robert Shelton Mackenzie to EBB

Dr Shelton Mackenzie [1] presents his compliments to Miss Barrett, & begs to intimate that he is compiling a Dictionary of Living Authors, [2] in which, of course, he must give some notice of Miss B’s writings. He therefore would feel much obliged by her favoring him with a list of her works, mentioning the dates of publication, and stating which of them have gone into a second edition.

The difficulty of obtaining accurate information from indirect sources compels Dr Mackenzie to apply, in this manner, to Miss Barrett.

1. Robert Shelton Mackenzie (1809–80), was the author of Lays of Palestine (1828) and Titian, a Romance of Venice (1843), and “he was the first European correspondent for the American press” (DNB).
