2157. EBB to Philip James Bailey
As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 11, 284.
50 Wimpole Street
[ca. 5] Jany 1846– [1]
Miss Barrett presents her compliments to Mr Bailey & thanks him for the manner in which he has rendered available, Miss Fuller’s kind intention towards her. Sensible as she is however to the compliment in question from one of her own sex, she cannot but be gratified still more by the gift of Festus from the poet himself,—& she takes the present opportunity of expressing to him that recognition of his genius, which she made in her thoughts long ago.
Publication: None traced.
Manuscript: University of Kansas.
1. Conjectural date suggested by EBB’s reference to “the gift of Festus” which she had mentioned to RB in the preceding letter.
