Dearest Miss Mitford

I am quite, quite grieved—quite grieved—& so unwell besides (which is the least) that I do not dare think of Swallowfield for tomorrow. Forgive me, & believe that your disappointment is nothing to my pained feeling. It shall be for another day, I do trust– Will you get this in time? I hope you will, so as not to expect us– I suppose I have done too much, & must keep quiet for the future.
