Correspondence

3176.  RB to Reuben Browning

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 19, 7–8.

Florence,

March 10. ’53.

My dear Reuben,

Sarianna duly apprised me of your having recd my Jany Div. £44.8.4. [1] I drew for the same last week—payable on the 28th inst:– Sarianna now writes that she has just asked you to pay the money to Mrs James Silverthorne. I had been expecting to hear of some other money paid in to my account—and that was the sum I meant to pay to her. As it is,—will you have the kindness to take whichever of these courses suits you best—either wait a week for the April Divd—(of £48-odd)—or, if you should happen to be in the least inconvenienced by so waiting, sell out £50 stock, with the Power in your hands,—and so repay yourself. Having money enough here to go on for some time, besides the prospect of more next month, I should, of course, be glad if you could save the necessity of touching the stock: but in case of such a necessity, as I count your convenience,—don’t hesitate for a moment.

I write in great haste to save the post. I trust you & yours are all well—as William [2] & his family: I have heard of all your kindness to poor Papa. We are all well here—but I have barely time to say so. Sarianna will have told you of my Play coming out—(don’t think I expect money from that, however!)

Ever yours faithfully,

Robt Browning Jr
