Correspondence

3318.  Adelaide Sartoris to EBB

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 20, 54.

[Rome]

Wednesday— [?4 January] [1854] [1]

Dear Mrs Browning—I forget if I told you that on Wednesday evenings we rehearse for our Friday’s music & how glad we should be to see you & Mr Browning always when it pleased either or both of you to come?—we have hardly any one on these evenings & I enjoy both the music & my friends better–

faithfully yours

Adelaide Sartoris.

Address, on integral page: Mrs Browning / 43. Bocca di Leone.

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Yale University.

1. Conjectural dating suggested by Mrs. Sartoris’s reference to her Friday soirées and Wednesday rehearsals. As EBB implies in letter 3320, the first Friday she attended was probably 6 January. We place this letter on the preceding Wednesday.
