As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 20, 252.

[Florence]

[mid-1854] [1]

My dearest papa and mama

I mean to write as well as I possibly can to make up for my reading which wass [sic] not so well I am sorry to say. We are apt to do things Ill sometimes, indeed too often, because we are not good unless God helps us.

Your own little

Penini.

Robert Wiedeman Barrett Browning

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Balliol College.

1. Approximate dating of this and the following letter suggested by comparisons of Pen’s handwriting. The handwriting in this letter is clearly more sophisticated than that of letter 3308 but clearly less than that of the enclosure in letter 3468.
