Dear Mrs Cranch,

We receive your card, with great regret that we cannot profit by it and meet Mr Lowell– Pray give him our regards and this regret together—not without hope that, before he returns to America, we may find some amends for what we are forced to lose now.

We leave Paris for London tomorrow morning, & shall be met with at 13 Dorset street, Baker Street–

Dear Mrs Cranch, do forgive us meantime for what must appear to you an excessive negligence in not returning your kind visit. The fact is we have been lingering here from day to day, detained by business, & scarcely knowing if every morrow would not carry us away– We shall be back again in two or three months, & shall hasten to find you out among our friends. With our united regards to Mr Cranch, believe me
