Thank you, dear Mr Jarves– I had written to Miss Blagden, but I dare say 46 will find her, though 43 was right– [2] So we shall all find out one another one day, I hope. Its only the difference between a 3 and a 6 after all.
But it was very good of you to come to see us, with the impression you might have had–
I have been reading .. not finishing your book, .. reading with much pleasure, & thankfulness to you for the gift you made us. [3] What has struck me much, is the beauty of the scenic descriptions–
I wish you all sorts of good, whether of the earth or beyond it—more truth and more repose in truth– My husband joins me in cordial regards–

1. Date provided by reference to the docket and to letter 3670, in which EBB writes: “This letter goes to you by our friend Mr. Jarves.”
2. EBB refers to Isa Blagden’s current London address, 43 Grosvenor Place, the home of her aunt, Mary Alexander (née Bracken, 1790–1867).
3. This copy of Jarves’s Art-Hints is inscribed: “To Robert Browning, Esq & Mrs. Elizabeth Barrett Browning from sincerely their friend James J. Jarves. London, July 1855.” It sold as part of an unspecified lot in Browning Collections (see Reconstruction, A1304).
