Saturday– [Postmark: 11 October 1856]

Dear Mrs Browning,

Most happy shall I be to come on Tuesday (6 o’clock, as originally mentioned) nothing, please Heaven, shall prevent me, unless Mrs Hunt has a relapse, or there is a rain of lions & tigers (instead of cats & dogs) or some very unlooked-for relapse should occur on my own part, against which I think I have been taking successful measures for some time past, longing as I have long been to be forth again among my friends. I have been disappointed, it is true, as to that matter, in point of continuance, more than once; but there are now grounds for hoping it, which did not then exist.

Mrs Hunt has progressed at a double rate, for this day or two; so that by Tuesday I look to feel no anxiety whatever.
