We called in Devonshire Place about a fortnight ago, and heard you were to be away for that time in the Isle of Wight. If you are returned, will you let me have the great pleasure of spending part of another evening—any except Saturday—at your house before you go away? And may I bring my friend J. W. 1. Patmore’s publisher, John William Parker (1820–60), who along with his father, John William Parker (1792–70), constituted the firm of John W. Parker & Son, West Strand, London. Besides Patmore, the Parkers published Charles Kingsley, F.D. Maurice, and John Stuart Mill. The younger Parker, a Cambridge graduate, edited Fraser’s Magazine until his death.
