1. Dated by reference to letter 4283.

2. This note is written on a calling card, upon which is printed “Mr Robert Browning.” The card bears, in RB’s hand, the Brownings’ recent Paris address of “Rue de Castiglione. 6,” which has been crossed out and replaced by the Rome address.
