Dearest Sophie, I had given it up, Robert having applied in vain of Mr Russell this morning, for you & me–
But as you have tickets I am much inclined to brave it– [2]
Dont you, though, attempt it, if you feel disinclined–
We dine before two, & I shall be ready at two to talk it over with you–

1. Conjectural date suggested by EBB’s mention of tickets, presumably for admission to the Sistine Chapel (see note 2 below).
2. We take this to be a performance of the Miserere in the Sistine Chapel on Good Friday, 22 April (see the end of letter 4390). According to Murray’s A Handbook of Rome and Its Environs (1858), “ladies must be provided with tickets” in order to be admitted (p. 108).
