Dear Chapman—Here are the last of the corrections. [1] Pray send word that they are arrived, &, generally, how the things go on—& send the proof of the portrait. [2]
Yours truly
Robt Browning
Address: Angleterre. / Messrs Chapman & Hall, / 193. Piccadilly / London.
Publication: NL, pp. 112–113.
Manuscript: Pierpont Morgan Library.
1. A list of EBB’s corrections for the fourth edition of Aurora Leigh. The manuscript of the full list of her corrections at Morgan (see Reconstruction, D57) indicates that the one RB is sending here is the third installment, the first having probably been sent in February and the second probably soon after 4 March (see the third paragraph in letter 4351). See also Aurora Leigh, ed. Margaret Reynolds (Athens, Ohio, 1992), pp. 118–120. Any letters from RB to Edward Chapman that may have accompanied the first two lists have not surfaced.
2. i.e., the frontispiece, an engraving of the Macaires’ photograph taken the previous September (see letter 4243, note 3).
