My dear Ainsworth,

It will be like your old goodnature to remember me after the passage of so many more years than I like to exactly calculate since I enjoyed your company: still, by appealing to your goodnature I show that I at least remember you well enough. This is why I write now. Made Baker, [1] a very accomplished & amiable lady, is anxious of acting upon a recommendation of Chapman’s [2] and contributing to your “Magazine”: [3] of course, her articles should unmistakeably speak for themselves, and, I hope, will do so—but as she pleases to think that the word of some friend of yours might do them the service of securing your attention,—I venture to speak it. You will do whatever you can, I know.
