Dear Millais,

It is so pleasant to find myself still in your remembrance [1] after not a few years have gone by since we met—that I can’t help saying it. Be assured, I never see your name in print without feeling gratitude for the works of your genius with which I am conversant, and regret that there should be another instance of its beauty & power which, for the moment at least, I am debarred from enjoying. But I shall return to England one day, and see them & see you, I trust.

I have written to Mr Lucas, & hope that he will be satisfied that, whenever I can do what he desires, I shall take the opportunity—and meanwhile am truly obliged by his kindness.
