As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 27, 159–160.
38 Via Gregoriana, Io
Wednesday Feby 1st [1860] [1]
Dear Mr Browning
Will you have the time and inclination to look in upon us tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 8/4. & take a social cup of tea.
Yours very Truly
Charlotte Cushman
May I have the Rondinella, [2] or will that Story never end?
Address: Mr Browning / 28. Via del Tritone 2d.
Publication: None traced.
Manuscript: Armstrong Browning Library.
1. The only year the Brownings and Miss Cushman were both in Rome on Wednesday, 1 February was 1860.
2. Perhaps a reference to the Tuscan folksong “La Rondinella,” which is an Italian diminutive for rondine, a swallow (bird).
