Dear Mr Browning.

It has occurred to me that a poem which should appear in Thackeray’s magazine on the first of any month might also appear in ‘The Atlantic’ at the same time very appropriately. Why not? Thus, if you or Mrs. Browning should prepare a poem to appear in the April No of the Cornhill Magazine & should have an understanding with the Editor that it is to come out then & then only, it could be given to me on the 20th of this month, Feb. to be sent to Boston to be printed in the April No of ‘The Atlantic’. Our Magazine is always printed in full by the 20th or 25th of the previous month & kept in the Bindery till publishing day. It wd of course be more certain if it were given to me on the 10th of the month, Feb. or on the 10th of March if it is to appear in the May No of both periodicals. There is not the least objection to this arrangement, and all copyright risk is removed.
