1. Approximate dating based on RB’s reference to EBB’s gradual recovery from the death of her sister Henrietta.

2. Frederic Chapman, who had visited the Brownings in Florence the previous June. They habitually and mistakenly refer to him as Edward Chapman’s nephew when he was in fact his cousin.
