4816. RB to Marie Esperance von Schwartz
As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 28, 291.
[Rome]
[ca. 22] [January 1861] [1]
Dear Madame de Schwartz,
I am again unfortunate, being absolutely enaged for next Thursday. My wife is suffering from the cold, but thank you heartily for all your kindness. Here are the photographs [2] you do us the honor to desire.
Yours very faithfully
Robert Browning.
Publication: None traced.
Manuscript: Pamela Crosier and James Nelson.
1. Approximate dating based on RB's reference to EBB’s “suffering from the cold.” In letter 4815 EBB writes: “It is cold today, & I am feeling rather wretched in the body.”
2. Presumably, one of these was a copy of the same photograph EBB sends with letter 4820 (see note 5).
