Dear Mrs Bayne,
I have to beg your pardon for unfortunately being unable to keep my engagement yesterday. [1] I was obliged to rise & accompany my sister to London Bridge at a very early hour, [2] —other matters called for me elsewhere in the course of the day,—& by the evening I was fairly worn out & fit for nothing but to go to bed—as I did accordingly. You will forgive me I do hope.
