Dear Mrs Grant Duff,

It would indeed be pleasant to see you again—thank you heartily for wishing it: but I go to Paris on Saturday morning, & am tired out with little cares & concerns in the meantime—I fear it cannot be.

But next winter or spring better things may be hoped for—I, at least, shall not be wanting to myself, but dispose of myself & my time as I like best—I shall take all your kindness, as well as that of Mr Grant Duff in pure earnest, and go and see you often enough—for you, at least.

So, good journeying & happy meeting to us all!

Mrs Story went this afternoon to the Russell Sturgis’, [1] at Waltham-on-Thames—one finds them at any time by addressing “care of Baring, Brothers.”

1. Russell Sturgis (1805–87), a close friend of the Storys, was a prosperous Boston merchant who in 1849 joined the London banking firm of Baring Brothers & Co. He is listed in the Brownings’ address book of this period (AB-4) at “Mount Felix, Walton on Thames.”
