My friend Mr Twistleton [2] has communicated to me your very gratifying promise to enter my Son’s name for residence at Balliol in Michaelmas Term, 1867.

I shall hardly venture to say how thankful I feel at such an instance of your goodness: but I may be permitted perhaps to assure you that my best shall be done in the meantime to render my Son not altogether unworthy of the high distinction by which you have so much obliged us.

Any intimation with which you may subsequently honor me, will of course receive my immediate attention, and still further add to the gratitude of,
