Dear Lady Westmorland,

Perhaps, for the subject’s sake, you may care to know how Mr Watts’ picture struck me. [1] I thought it successful and happy. The likeness seemed there; the look & expression may possibly be less familiar to you than many others—but he surely can have them: it is a charming, young poet’s head—and will be precious, no doubt.

I trust you are enjoying the country air—it is close and town-like here to-day.

2. Rose Sophia Mary Fane (afterwards Weigall, 1834–1921), youngest and only surviving daughter of Lady Westmorland and her husband, John Fane (1784–1859), 11th Earl of Westmorland.
