My dear Lehmann,

I wish I could get such a pleasure as you propose to me—but it can’t be, for I am engaged to-morrow. Thank you heartily now & always. Yes, town is hot indeed, & one gets tired and anxious to get done with town & its ways—my turn will soon come, I hope—but the last days are fuller of trouble than ever—and, except of an evening, I can do little that I like.
