My dear Lewes,
I don’t know whether you have heard, in these late months, of Mr Conway, an American—who came here with letters abundantly recommendatory. [1] He is very amiable, and, I believe, Good: a friend of Carlyle’s, and other persons well known to you: from whom he could get what he pleases to wish from me—an introduction to you,—just to see you, knowing your works well. I sent him, in like fashion, to Tennyson,—and did no harm. He is going to leave England very soon: all I shall say is, that if he be indulged with an opportunity of seeing you, it will greatly gratify him.
