Dear Mr Browning
Do not be alarm’d, the material part of the Dinner did not suffer [1] ––as a Lady Guest was in Question; & therefore according to Etiquette–––a Gentleman is never waited for——But your absence was of course much regretted——& I so entirely misunderstood you, that I refused a place at my Table to the Husband of the said Lady who wanted to come——
I thought you said you had an “artist club”/?/ sort of meeting––but that it was “unimportant & rather a Bore” but that if you could not put it off you would let <me> Know—— Ecco [2] ——
The mild weather which the multitude rejoice in the return of, afflicts me & my fellow-sufferers in neuralgia, I hope your health is not disturb’d——
