1. James William Colvile (1810–80), barrister and judge, and his wife, Frances Elinor (née Grant, 1838–1919). Colvile was knighted in 1848 for his service as a jurist in India. He became chief justice of the supreme court of Bengal in 1855 and returned to England four years later with his wife, whom he married at Calcutta in April 1857. The Colviles are listed in RB’s address book of this period (AB-5) at 8 Rutland Gate.
