Correspondence

5363.  RB to Moncure Daniel Conway

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 31, 40.

[London]

April 26. ’64

Dear Mr Conway,

Here are the proofs [1] which I promised: they will be published on or after the 21st May. I rely on your entirely keeping them to yourself, as, with one exception, [2] nobody has seen them.

Yours very truly

Robert Browning

Publication: NL, p. 160.

Manuscript: Berg Collection.

1. Of Dramatis Personae, which Chapman and Hall published on 28 May 1864. The proofs were for the review Conway was writing (see letter 5343, note 4). They are at the Berg, along with this letter and a fragment of a letter from Conway to his wife, in which he writes: “Mr. Browning called & left the proof” ([?26] [April 1864], ms at Berg).

2. The “exception” being Joseph Milsand (see letter 5353).
