My dear Friend,

Can you let me call on you to-morrow at about 3—instead of 4 o’clock, as I had appointed? I shall suppose so unless I hear otherwise. [1]

My whole sympathy is with you to-day as you must know [2] —as yours would have been with me this day three years ago: [3] yet I shall go out to-day. It would be too foolish telling friends in effect “there is a difference in my thoughts to-day”, when there is none.
