Mon cher petit Frère Tandis que vous vous promenerez dans la place d’Albion et que vous vous amuserez à jouer dans les bocages et parmi les fleurs variées de ce jardin je me ferai un devoir de vous écrire et ce sera pour vous témoigner combien mon affection pour vous est sincère et pour vous assurer du veritable desir que j’ai pour votre bonheur– croyez à la vérité de mes sentimens et personne ne vous souhaite plus de bonheur que moi[.] Je vous dirai que tant que vous serez jeune laissez faire la jeunesse[;] elle ne vous fera pas de mal mais quand vous serez plus agé donnez à la lecture tout le temps que vous pourrez et soyez toujours de bonne foi[;] en faisant ainsi vous ferez le bonheur de votre Père et celui de votre mère comme aussi de vos amis et de votre très chère soeur

Translation:
My dear little Brother
While you will be strolling in Albion Place and you will be amusing yourself by playing in the groves and among the varied flowers of this garden, I will make it a duty to write to you and this will prove to you how much my affection for you is sincere, and assure you of the true desire I have for your happiness. Believe in the truth of my feelings and know that nobody wishes you more happiness than I. I will say to you that as long as you are young, let youth be itself; it will do you no harm, but as you get older, give all the time you can to reading and be always of good faith; by doing this you will make your Father happy and also your mother, your friends and your very dear sister

1. The identity of the recipient is conjectured to be Charles John, who was three years old at this time, based on the salutation and content. It could, however, have been written to George, whom EBB mentioned in the previous letter.
2. Dated by reference to Albion Place, Ramsgate, where EBB and other family members were staying at this time.
