My dear Browning

Mr Brookfield [1] wants A.T. [2] my wife and me to go to him tomorrow night, and when I told him that it was possible you might come he desired me to ask you to come to him instead; and said that he knew you well enough to ask; and as he very much wished to get us and you were uncertain of coming I thought we might promise to go to him.

His address is 30 Brompton Square. If I find out that you really would have come I shall consider myself sold by myself—
