My dear Browning

Many thanks for Milsand’s book: [1] I had that confidence in you, that I disregarded one or two occasions of reading the book, though it looked interesting and Palgrave gave the highest report of it. I have promised (for my sins) to do two things for a newspaper; and I shall try and make a notice of this book one of them. [2]

Ever sincerely yours

Matthew Arnold.

Address: Robert Browning Esqre / 19, Warwick Crescent, / Harrow Road / W.

Publication: Arnold, 2, 382.

Manuscript: The Brotherton Collection, University of Leeds.

1. Presumably L’Esthétique anglaise: étude sur M. John Ruskin (1864).

2. We have been unable to trace such a review.
