Dear Lady Colvile,

I shall be very happy indeed to see you again—on the 28th—if not before. I heard with great concern of your illness some time ago: and just when I hoped to be allowed to call and congratulate on your recovery, my son caught the measles and it was my turn to keep away from friends. But the interdict has been long ago taken off me, and you may depend on my endeavouring to recover what social pleasures I have lost.
